Today turned out
to be great weather, not what was forecast. Most of our shopping errands could wait and we
could take care of them on Sunday so we decided to go to Antwerp, Belgium, an
hour southwest of Eindhoven. Antwerp is the second biggest city in Belgium
after Brussels.
First we went to
Cogels Osylei, a cobbled street in a residential area which was once considered
out of town. The houses here are all different, many Art Nouveau.
We then walked
some side streets in the Zurenborg neighborhood. There are town houses
intermingled with large mansions.
I love that the
woodwork carvings with each face is different.
Cathedral of Our
Lady was begun in the 14th century and finished in 1518.

We happened to
be in Antwerp during Pride right when the parade was starting near Hetsteen.
Saint Paul’s
Church (Sint-Pauluskerk) from 1530-1571 and has a beautiful baroque interior
The wood carving
work here was beautiful

We decided to
stop for some drinks and a bite to eat. We ended up at Gollem, which had 30
beers on tap. Joe had a beer, Jackie a cappuccino and we enjoyed a cheese plate
while people watching as the Pride Parade ended.
