Interurban Trail over Chuckanut Bay

Today it wasn’t supposed to rain until the afternoon, so Chance and I took to the trails. We went to the Interurban Trail which connects the historic Fairhaven District to Larrabee State Park on a former railroad bed. It’s supposed to be an easy trail except for a steep canyon section through Arroyo Park. We skipped that part and parked at California Ave, at the North Chuckanut Trailhead south of Old Samish Highway on Chuckanut Drive. The trails overlooks the Chuckanut Bay and San Juan Islands. It’s densely wooded so difficult to get a nice clear picture of the view. 

I’m jealous of the house on Clark Point. It has a panoramic view of the Puget Sound and islands. 

 I had a difficult time getting a picture of Governor Point. There is also an island is Chuckanut Bay. 

There was a landslide of sandstone rock that had been cleaned off the trail in 2 spots. There were several waterfall points along the mountainside where water drainage was controlled to certain points. Chance hated the sound of the water. 

Chance and I walked and jogged around 2.5 miles down the trail. We stopped at the road to took up to hike to Fragrance Lake in Larrabee State Park a few weeks ago. We ran most of the way back, only to stop to snap a few more photos. I’m sure gonna be sore tomorrow after 5 miles.

Gas Works Park

After an interview in Seattle, I drove around the big city of a little while. I decided to go to Gas Works Park since the sun was starting to peek through the clouds. There is a big hill that has a beautiful view to the south of Lake Union and downtown Seattle.  Lake Union is a freshwater lake that connects the Puget Sound to Lake Washington. The site was the former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant. The old machinery is still on site, but painted and used as sculpture pieces. It was very windy today. There were white caps on Lake Union. Next time I will climb the artificial hill to see the sundial and people flying kites. This site was featured in a scene of the movie “10 Things I Hate About You” where they play paintball. 

Lake Union is lined with houseboats. I think that’s how I would like to retire: live right on the water.

Dim Sum & House

After mass at the Catholic Church in Fairhaven, we drove down to Seattle to the House of Hong for dim sum for brunch. The first time we ate here was after our plane landed around 2pm so the food wasn’t very warm nor were there many people to bring the carts around to. This time was completely different. The free parking lot across from the restaurant was packed. They even have a parking attendant helping you find a parking spot to get you in to your table. We ate steamed shrimp dumplings, pot stickers, fried noodles, barbeque pork buns and turnip cake. It was wonderful and a better price than the last time we ate dim sum in San Francisco.

We met the owner of our rental house at 1pm. He works for Microsoft. They are an Indian couple that live in Redmond. We are still finalizing the contract, but all background and credit checks went well. Here’s a sneak peak of the exterior of the house. I’ll do a more in depth post when we can get in again and take more pictures of the interior. It’s a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1750sf single family house built in 2000 on a cul-de-sac in Mill Creek, WA. It has a 2 story hardwood floor entry. The kitchen is spacious with tile counters , desk and pantry. There is a gas fireplace in the living room which opens up to the formal dining room and a slider to the deck. Now we are counting down the days to Monday May 23^rd when the moving truck should arrive. We’re so ready to have all of our stuff.
