Today after I gave a Seattle Architecture Foundation
Greatest Hits Tour with fellow volunteer tour guides we went to the street
festival that celebrates the start of summer in the quirky Seattle community of
Fremont, as they refer to themselves, the “center of the universe.” It
coincides with the summer solstice. It is best described as the Freedom to be
Peculiar.
The highlight is the Fremont Solstice Parade, organized
by the Fremont Arts Council. The Solstice Cyclists bike naked, with mostly only
paint to cover themselves, unofficially start the parade. The pageantry and
floats were more than I expected. Joe took some pictures of the official parade
portion.
It was actually really warm today so after getting a bite
of street food, we head back to the car to call it a day. We could only take so
much of the always peculiar Fremont Fair.
