ARCADE Bullitt Center

ARCADE Bullitt Center
Friday March 8, 2013

If I have to work inside on this beautiful day I at least get to spend the last day of my 20s with the best coworkers! Thanks for the Cupcake Royale & tulips girls!
After work, Robert, Amanda and I head to the ARCADE party at the Bullitt Center. The building doesn’t officially open under Earth Day but it was nice to get a sneak peak of level 2 and its roof deck. The stair tower was to die for. Loved it. The largely glazed office building is overbearing with its PV ‘hat’ overhanging the sidewalks and really overbearing for the neighborhood.

Bullitt Center Tour

May 24, 2012

Today a co-worker at GGLO arranged a tour of the Bullitt Center construction site tour. This building is being touted as the greenest commercial building in the world. The President of the Bullitt Foundation and founder of Earth Day, Denis Hayes is a huge advocate of The Living Building Challenge. The building will be required to be self-sufficient for energy and water for at least 12 continuous months. An employee at Point32, the developer of the project, led us around. Miller Hull is the designer.

Every pipe and fitting, etc is not made from PVC or contain lead, both red-list materials in the Living Building Challenge.
All the glulam 2x6s are FCS Pure certified wood.
I’d take this office view any day.

Framing for the skylight.

I can’t wait to see the framework going up to support the massive PV panel roof that overhangs the sidewalk in Capitol Hill.
