Fremont Mischief, Kerry Park, Elysian, Cupcake Royale

Saturday April 13, 2013

Saturday morning was a struggle for Jackie. About half the 1/5 of the whiskey bottle was gone. She didn’t partake in the breakfast quiche with the others.

There was a better weather forecast for Monday so we did Seattle stuff for the day.

First we went to the Fremont Distillery, Mischief. We brought home a good bottle of gin and made plans for Jackie to take a slight detour on her bike rides home to pick some more up.

We were starting to get hungry for lunch so we took them to the best sandwich shop in Seattle. Paseo had recently reopened. They close down during the winter. The hiatus from Cuban sandwiches seem to last sooo long. The line was also long. At least a 30 minute wait to order.

We drove over to Kerry Park to eat our sandwiches somewhere with a good view. Of course it started to rain just as we got there.  It didn’t stop 3 brides in limousines from stopping with their photographers to take the scenic shots with the city and Puget Sound background. It made it a little difficult to get pictures of our visitors there since the wedding people would get the prime photo spots.

Next we drove over to Oola, another micro-distillery on Capitol Hill. Unfortunately once we were there we learned they do not do tastings without 24 hour notice reservations. It has something to do with their type of license which doesn’t really make sense to me.

We wished we hadn’t filled up on Cuban sandwiches as we walked by Skillet diner.

Instead we went over to Elysian Brewery for some beers.

After that we walked down to Cupcake Royale for ice cream.

I think Joe & I look like Seattleites in this picture on Pike Street in front of Cupcake Royale.

As we were walking back to the car we heard thunder which I had just finished telling everyone we rarely get thunderstorms in Seattle. Then there was a massive downpour noise in the distance getting louder and louder. We quickly hi-tailed it to the car, expecting a massive downpour. It wasn’t rain, it was hailing! It was coming down hard. The roads and even I-5 looked like it snowed!

We stopped at H-mart, the Korean grocery store in Lynnwood on the way home to pick up the makings for dumplings and other desired Chinese food. Sunny and Emily were dumpling wrappers extraordinaire.

Seattle at Night

December 26, 2012

Joe & Nikki came to pick Jackie up a little early from work.  We stopped for a snack of piroshkies in Pike Place Market and then drove up to Kerry Park for a nice view of downtown and the Space Needle.

It was cold up on Queen Anne with the wind.

We went over to Capitol Hill for drinks and a bite to eat at Tavern Law.

On our way home the skies cleared up enough to warrant a stop at Gasworks Park.

Shugarts Visit: Pike Place Market, Kerry Park

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Chrissi and Pat, my big sister and her husband came to visit us in Seattle for a few days sans kids. Liam and Ryan stayed home with Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Andy in King.
Since I had just taken a week of vacation, it was hard to get out of work a few days after returning. Fortunately they agreed to ride the light rail into downtown from SeaTac airport. I volunteers with a group of GGLO co-workers in the morning. I didn’t get to do much construction per say on the Habitat House for the Future at Seattle Center. Pamela and I were tasked with putting together IKEA kitchen cabinetry. That sure was a challenge. I really hate that there are no words so it’s not clear when say this side up is important. But we agreed that what happened that day will not be repeated. ;)
I met Chrissi & Pat at the light rail stop and took them into my office to drop off their luggage. It was time for lunch at Pike Place Market. First stop, Piroshky Piroshky. A little bit of meat, vegetables and rhubarb stuffed in a Russian pastry = a little bit of heaven. We ate at Victor Steinbruck Park overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront.

Pike Place Fish Market.
Beechers Mac n Cheese.
Pat & Jackie checking out Post Alley from above while Chrissi just likes the bench at Pike Place Brewery. We had some beers here while we waited for Joe to head downtown to pick us up for dinner.

We did some tea tasting at a shop in Pike Place Market.

First Space Needle sighting.
Sailboat coming into the marina downtown.

Downtown Seattle from Waterfront Park.
Ferry coming in.

We then met up with Joe who drove down to Seattle to pick us up and go to dinner. First we stopped at Kerry Park on the top of Queen Anne hill overlooking downtown.

We then drove to Wallingford to eat at Bizzarro Italian Café, one of our favorite Seattle restaurants.
