March 2, 2014

I love that I can get beautiful tulips at Pike Place Market for so much less than what it would have cost to order flowers for Valentines Day!

Shugarts Visit: Pike Place Market, South Lake Union Park, Locks

Saturday, August 25, 2012

This morning we drove down to Seattle’s International District to have dim sum at Jade Garden.
After breakfast we went back to Pike Place Market to do some Mekster Maps, used bookstore and toy shopping.

Chrissi & Jackie at Pike Place Market, meeting the producer.
We went to the Brave Horse Tavern for a drink and pretzels.
We walked over to South Lake Union Park.

We watched the sea planes land in the houseboat lined waters.

Sailboats.

Pat & Chrissi at South Lake Union.
Paddleboarders.
Next we drove over to the Ballard Locks.
We went to look at the salmon swimming through the fish ladder.

Smart seal waiting for salmon.
Ballard waterway.
Boats in the locks waiting for the waters to rise to the level of the Puget Sound.
Watching boats heading into the locks from the Puget Sound.

Just not quick enough to catch the multiple salmon jumping.

We went down into Snohomish for some antiquing, drinks and dinner. The open farmland gives beautiful panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains.
Beers at Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse. Pat was introduced to one of his new favorites: Alaska Amber.
Such a nice day the hot air balloons were out.
We went to Cabbage Patch for dinner which unfortunately turned out to be our least favorite meal of the visit.

Shugarts Visit: Pike Place Market, Kerry Park

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Chrissi and Pat, my big sister and her husband came to visit us in Seattle for a few days sans kids. Liam and Ryan stayed home with Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Andy in King.
Since I had just taken a week of vacation, it was hard to get out of work a few days after returning. Fortunately they agreed to ride the light rail into downtown from SeaTac airport. I volunteers with a group of GGLO co-workers in the morning. I didn’t get to do much construction per say on the Habitat House for the Future at Seattle Center. Pamela and I were tasked with putting together IKEA kitchen cabinetry. That sure was a challenge. I really hate that there are no words so it’s not clear when say this side up is important. But we agreed that what happened that day will not be repeated. ;)
I met Chrissi & Pat at the light rail stop and took them into my office to drop off their luggage. It was time for lunch at Pike Place Market. First stop, Piroshky Piroshky. A little bit of meat, vegetables and rhubarb stuffed in a Russian pastry = a little bit of heaven. We ate at Victor Steinbruck Park overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront.

Pike Place Fish Market.
Beechers Mac n Cheese.
Pat & Jackie checking out Post Alley from above while Chrissi just likes the bench at Pike Place Brewery. We had some beers here while we waited for Joe to head downtown to pick us up for dinner.

We did some tea tasting at a shop in Pike Place Market.

Waterfront.

First Space Needle sighting.
Sailboat coming into the marina downtown.

Cheesin’
Downtown Seattle from Waterfront Park.
Ferry coming in.

We then met up with Joe who drove down to Seattle to pick us up and go to dinner. First we stopped at Kerry Park on the top of Queen Anne hill overlooking downtown.

We then drove to Wallingford to eat at Bizzarro Italian Café, one of our favorite Seattle restaurants.
