Carnaval 2017

Saturday, February 25, 2017

For Carnaval this year we reused Brooklyn's hand-me-down Halloween costume from her cousins, a 18 month old size Skunk. In Seattle, Jackie had made a Fox costume for Halloween (back when the video "What Does the Fox Say" went viral). To go with that theme, she decided to find one more woodland animal costume in the store and modify Caleb's fuzzy warm suit for winter into a costume. Jackie found a small cheap bear costume at Primark (an British store) so that meant Joe would be wearing her Fox outfit this year. Since Jackie was a bear, Caleb was going to be a rabbit. The other woodland animal options we almost did were a raccoon, deer, owl, wolf, squirrel, possum, bird, peacock, butterfly, porcupine, beaver, or mole. Maybe next year with Caleb as the skunk...
Daddy Fox, Momma Bear, Little Skunk and Baby Rabbit got dressed and headed to Eindhoven Centrum for some lunch. We walked around a bit to try to get Caleb to sleep in the stroller. The parade starts at 12:41 at the train station, down Dommelstraat, Vestdijk, Catharinaplein, to Kerkstraat to Wal. Our first year we watched from the Expat HUB on Vestdijk, last year we watched on Kerkstraat, the nearest location to our house. This year we went to Dommelstraat to see the parade at an earlier time period. The thing is like 2 hours long and very slow moving.

Eindhoven's annual Carnaval (like Mardi Gras) parade. During Carnaval, the city is renamed Lampegat.

Carnaval Eindhoven 2016

Saturday February 6, 2016

Wednesday for playgroup Brooklyn and Jackie wore their handmade (aka cheap) crayon costumes. Not the best photo of Brooklyn, but the best I took of her in her costume.
It looked much better Wednesday than on Saturday where it was over her puffy pink coat.
On Saturday we went to Eindhoven Centrum to watch the Lampegat Parade on Kerksestraat.

Carnaval confetti
It was amazing how fast the city came through to clean up the mess of the confetti all over the streets. During Carnaval, Eindhoven is renamed Lampegat.
We walked over to Wilheminaplein to get another drink (after a restroom pitstop at Megan’s).
We were all cold and tired so we retired into Matt and Amy’s apartment to chill and order some pizza.
The babies were tired so we called it a night. We just can’t last like we used to now that we are parents. We wished we still had the energy for the parade in Maastricht on Sunday, but we just didn’t have it in us.
