Ultrasound 19 weeks

January 27, 2016

We had our 19 week ultrasound today at the Diagnostiek Voor U in Eindhoven. These anomaly scans are always the most nerve-racking. One the one hand you are so excited to see images of your child and possibly find out the gender, but on the other you worry what they will see and if they are truly growing into healthy babies in utero.
With Brooklyn we had a 20 week ultrasound in Everett, WA before Jackie finished working (so Jackie was still covered on her work health insurance plan) and before we moved to the Netherlands a mere days later... (http://jackieandjoeliang.blogspot.nl/2014/05/its-baby.html
Once we arrived in the Netherlands and had all our residency and health insurance set up, our midwife said they wanted to do another echo/scan to be safe and check things themselves. Jackie was around 23 weeks at that point. We were more than happy to get another peek at our baby. (http://jackieandjoeliang.blogspot.nl/2014/06/ultrasound-in-holland.html)

Today this baby was not as cooperative for this ultrasound. They had their legs above their head most of the time making it hard to get good angles of everything they needed to check. But we are glad to say that all looks good so far for the health of the baby. The lip was fully enclosed. There were 4 functioning heart ventricles. The stomach was measuring a little bigger than it should at first but after finally getting a better angle, the measurements came up to within a day or 2 of the June 20 expected due date. We were very relieved. We have a happy and healthy looking baby so far!
Here are a few of the good shots they saved for us:
head with face profile and feet above
face profile
face straight on, barely seen between legs
spine

Unlike in the US where we were able to see a 4D image of Brooklyn's face at 19 weeks, it costs additional to get a separate 4D scan which are done by independent companies that normally are not covered by insurance.

We have officially found out the gender of the baby today which we have shared personally with some of the family and friends. I will do a separate blog post to make that official announcement on whether we are having a boy or another girl. Sorry I will not be posting that ultrasound image of our little girl's lady bits or our man's manhood for the whole world to see. Some things must remain private :)

Ultrasound 12 weeks

December 2, 2015

Tonight at our ultrasound at the midwife, we had one active little baby. The baby was moving all around. We could see when they were focused on the head profile the mouth open and close which was pretty close. With how active the baby was we couldn't help be wonder if it could be a boy? I have been craving more salty food than sweets this time. 7 more weeks until the big ultrasound with a look at the gender...

Ultrasound 8 weeks

November 10, 2015
We had an ultrasound at 8 weeks at the midwife to confirm a positive pregnancy and to confirm the baby quantity growing in there. Thank goodness no twins! Phew! That thought hadn't even crossed our mind until they said it. Brooklyn at 20 months and one newborn sounds crazy enough, but TWINS! yikes! Thankfully twins do not run in our family.
At this early stage, there really isn't that much to see of our little tadpole, but exciting none the less to see and hear.

Ultrasound in Holland

Friday June 6, 2014

With the move to another country, we were able to have another look via ultrasound at our baby girl today at 23 weeks (yay for new insurance coverage footing the bill!). She is a lot more active than 4 weeks ago. All still looks good. Her top lip was fully closed. There were 4 functioning heart ventricles and blood flowing in the right directions. All measurements look right on schedule.
Her head diameter and circumference are a few days ahead of schedule but still in the 50-90th percentile. Her brain (cerebellum diameter), abdominal circumference, femur length and estimated weight are a little behind a few days but in the 10-50th percentile. All within comfortable levels at this stage of pregnancy.

Here are a few shots from the ultrasound:

It's a baby...

May 9, 2014

...GIRL!
At the ultrasound, she looked healthy with 2 of everything she needs, all organs accounted for and 5 fingers. No red flags to report.
Here are a few of the ultrasound pictures of our sweet growing daughter :)

They switched from 2D to 3D to get a good view of her face.
Sorry I will not be posting a photo verifying that we are having a girl. Our ultrasound technician was a male. As Joe jokingly said, she’s not even born yet and a dude has already seen my daughter’s private parts!
She is 10 ounces now at 19 weeks, 1 day. Almost halfway there to meeting our little one!

Ultrasound week 10

March 10, 2014

We had a slight scare at my midwife checkup today at 10 weeks. The midwife couldn’t get a heartbeat on the Doppler which is fairly normal this early in pregnancy (happens about 50% of the time). She went and got their portable ultrasound machine which is much lower quality than those used in hospitals and labs. She wasn’t able to hear the heartbeat over my own and from what I could see of the screen, I didn’t really see much about the baby at all.
She was really worried for me and convinced me to go to the hospital that day to have an ultrasound. Joe was in Columbus at Cummins headquarters for work. I was freaking out that we may have lost the baby. As time passed waiting for my ultrasound appointment, the more worried I got. There were a lot of prayers said and tears cried during that hour.
Finally it was time for the ultrasound, and all our worries subsided. The heartbeat was strong at 168 beats per minute.
This is our first photo we have of our first child. We can't wait to see more at our next ultrasound and to find out if we're having a boy or girl in 9 weeks (at week 19)
