Wrights & Moyers visit

Thursday & Friday September 9-10, 2011

Our good friends from college came for a visit September 7-12. Wes and Lauren live in Tennessee and Jason and Emily currently live in San Diego.  They got in late Wednesday night.

Thursday morning they had their fun in Seattle, hitting my favorite stops in Pike Place Market. I met them for lunch at Japonessa, a decent priced lunch sushi place near my office and the market. After lunch they went up the Space Needle while I had to go back to work. They took the monorail there and then walked to SAM’s Olympic Sculpture Park along the waterfront. I met up with them at Pike Place Brewery after work. We only stayed for a quick beer since their room with massive TV’s showing the opening game of the NFL (Packers vs Saints) was reserved for a private party. We drove over to Pyramid Alehouse across from Safeco Field. Joe eventually met us for dinner. The beer choices were a letdown for the guys since they were looking for dark beers which they were out of and because they didn’t do beer samples on game nights (they Mariners were playing).

Joe took off work on Friday to take the 4 visitors to the Olympic National Park. They took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston. These photos must be credited to Emily Wright and Wes Moyer.
First they went up to Hurricane Ridge. There weren’t any deer grazing on the mountainside this time. They then hiked up Hurricane Hill to overlook the Strait of Juan de Fuca. They saw an Olympic marmot.

Next they went to Marymere Falls, a 90 foot waterfall.

Lake Crescent seemed to be the highlight of the day. They hiked the Spruce Railroad Trail. Near Devil’s Point at the Punchbowl, the guys decided to jump off the bridge into the lake. Then the guys took turns jumping half way up the cliff. There’s video as well.
