Shugarts Visit: Deception Pass

Friday, August 24, 2012

Today we picked Joe up from work early and went to lunch at Rachawadee Thai Café in Mount Vernon. We then drove over to Fidalgo Island and down to Deception Pass, the narrow water passageway.
Deception Pass looking west toward Olympic Peninsula, Juan de Fuca Strait and San Juan Islands.
Walking across the bridge over Deception Pass.
We hiked down from the bridge onto Pass Island. Looking back at fishing boats near North Beach.

Patrick and Chrissi at Deception Pass.

Stylin Pat in his new rain jacket, the anti-rain insurance purchased just for this trip.

Jackie, Chrissi and Pat at Deception Pass.

Sisters.

Deception Pass bridge.
Jackie getting ready to hurt herself trying to climb the bridge.

Deception Pass.

There was a seal swimming in the shallow waters.
Deception Pass looking east.
Bridge supports.
We hiked down to North Beach.

Pacific Northwest forest.
Pat amid the ferns.

Look an old log stump you can climb in!

Puget Sound waters.
Yep Chrissi and Jackie are crazy enough to stick their feet in the probably 50 degree water.
It’s a little more obvious how cold the water is when a wave comes.

Deception Pass State Park North Beach rocky shoreline.

Joe and Jackie seem to fit right in here.

Hiking back up to the car.
We drove back north to Bowman Bay to go for a hike.

Checking the trail map before leaving but easily distracted by looking at the kayak route map.
I had heard good things about the Rosario Head Lighthouse Point trail so that was the way we head, of so we thought.

Boat dock.
The best viewpoint we had, but never found the lighthouse.

Treeclimber Pat.

Jackie’s turn. It was comfty. She could nap there.

Pat found a better one to climb.

Jackie can’t let Pat have all the fun. Besides we have a doctor on the trail in case something bad happens.

Good hike.
Bowman Bay dock.

Another seal.
Sister time.
Not sure why I made us wave at Joe.
I still wanted to climb things.
Good times.
We drove down Whidbey Island to Clinton to take the ferry to Mukilteo.

Mt Rainier faintly in the distance.

Cascades to the east past Everett.

Pat and Chrissi on the Washington State Marine Highway ferry system.

Approaching Mukilteo.
Mukilteo Lighthouse.
We were going to grab a drink at Diamond Knot Brewery but it was jam packed. We went home for dinner and called it an early night.
