Lake Whatcom & Railroad Trail

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

It was another day without rain so Chance and I checked out another new trail in Bellingham. We drove 3-4 miles to Bloedel Donovan Park on Lake Whatcom. The off-leash area was closed due to wet soil and the inability to get seed to take. The park was full of people on the playground, volleyball courts and leaving the indoor swimming pool at the Community Center. Chance & I walked along the shoreline. One of the Cascade Mountains to the south has snow on it. The homes in the Silver Lake area have a great waterfront view.
From the parking lot at Bloedel Donovan Park we took the trailhead for the Railroad Trail. We hiked a mile to the Alabama Street pedestrian overpass bridge, which overlooks downtown Bellingham, Bellingham Bay and San Juan Islands. It wasn’t as clear of a day as yesterday, but it still was a gorgeous view.
