Stoehr’s in Seattle

Friday, November 25, 2011

Friday was the clearest day we were going to have so we went down into Seattle to explore.

We went to Seattle Center to see the Space Needle and the EMP (Experience Music Project – a music museum designed by Frank Gehry that looks like a smashed electric guitar). No one wanted to spend the $18/person to go up the Space Needle. I don’t think Andy could handle going up in the elevator anyway which has a view through the glass.

We walked over to the International Fountain which was actually on in this colder weather.

 Joe’s riding an orca whale!

We then went back to the car to head down to Pike Place Market. We went to Victor Steinbruck Park to get a view of Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains beyond.

We also could see the CenturyLink and Safeco Field.
Looking back toward Pike Place Market.
We had Russian pastries from Piroshky Piroshky for lunch.

Mom in front of the original Starbucks.
The produce is amazing in Pike Place Market. Meet the producer of chanterelle mushrooms and sweet organic rainbow carrots.
We walked over to GGLO so my parents could see the office where I work.

Harbor Steps entrance into the office.

The Seattle Art Museum with the Hammering Man working away across the street.

On the way back to the car we stopped for Beecher’s famous mac and cheese and I picked up a pint of cheese curds. They’re mac and cheese is so creamy and incredibly tasty.

Mom and Dad also bought me a bouquet of flowers since they are so cheap and Joe never buys me flowers because they die (most are dried flowers that are still in the house).
The sky cleared up a bit.
My Mom is so beautiful!
Next we decided to drive over to Discovery Park. Since we were passing by the Ballard Locks we stopped for a visit first. The railroad bridge was up.

The locks.
There weren’t any salmon swimming through the fish ladder while we were there since it’s not prime migrating season in November.

Cute Mommy.

The railroad bridge began going down as we crossed the locks into Ballard.
We walked around the Botanical Gardens on the Ballard side of the Locks.

The view of the Cascades looking toward the Fremont Cut from the Locks.
The bridge was all the way down on the way back with a train crossing.
At Discovery Park we walked out to the viewpoint.

Hopefully you can still make out the Olympic Mountains beyond us.

We stopped at Jive Records in Fremont so Dad could look at records.

Joe made some yummy homemade Chinese food for dinner. Dumplings, bulgogi (Korean style marinated beef) and veggies.
